This office works to foster community connections between Nova Southeastern University and its alumni, friends, generous donors, and local nonprofit organizations through a variety of inclusive University events.
What We Do
NSU’s Special Events and Community Partnerships team collaborates with Advancement, Community Relations, Donor Stewardship, Athletics, and the Office of the President to plan and execute gatherings such as NSU's Celebration of Excellence.
This office also acts as a liaison to community nonprofit organizations that NSU supports through monetary donations, scholarships, sponsorships, and in-kind services such as:
- Providing space on campus for community events
- Hosting organizational fundraising walks
- Catering support
- Outreach
- Guest speakers and more

Community
The Office of Special Events and Community Partnerships also serves as the liaison between NSU and its surrounding communities, representing the University in community organizations and activities whose missions are closely aligned with that of the university.
The Community Events sponsorship/participation program must address five objectives:
- Raise the profile of NSU
- Recruit high-performing students
- Promote co-op learning opportunities
- Engage alumni as supporters, donors, and parents of (potential) students
- Engage community leaders to support NSU’s civic objectives
- Health and Wellness
- Performing and Visual Arts
- Student Recruitment
- Diversity
- Education
- Enable strategic networking for purposes of recruitment or fundraising
- Raise the profile of the University in areas such as learning and research excellence, staff, and faculty achievements
- Engage alumni as supporters, donors, and parents of potential students
- Partner with community leaders toward strategic objectives
- Compliment marketing initiatives within programs such as capital campaigns, faculty recruitment, co-op program support, or special celebrations and events
- Events associated with political fundraising
- Retroactive initiatives

University
Special Events and Community Partnerships assists in orchestrating University events by providing event planning, budget proposals, timelines, and the overall execution of every detail required for a successful, enjoyable event. This office provides a centralized standard of excellence, quality, and protocol for all NSU events. The Special Events and Community Partnerships team will coordinate every detail of your event from start to finish.
Special Events and Community Partnerships work with other University/campus departments for events including campus and grounds services, public safety, catering services, media services, and outside vendors.
Please note that all student organizations and student-related activities are required to work with the Office of Student Affairs when coordinating and planning University events.
1. Concept: At the first meeting, Special Events and Community Partnerships will conceptualize your event by offering creative ideas and visualizations while staying within your parameters for the overall “look” and budget of the event. We will discuss desired outcomes and goals to achieve a positive Return on Event (ROE).
2. Implementation: The team will bring the ideas discussed above to fruition by preparing an event checklist that serves as an event responsibility agreement, which will outline our responsibilities to you and an initial budget for your approval.
3. Production: The team produces the event, including sourcing and hiring vendors (internal and external). They will also facilitate the design of your event, including coordination between your senior business officer and our event manager(s) to track and facilitate all billing.
4. Management: On-site event management ensures high-quality, effective, and efficient client service and, most important, client satisfaction. They guide the clients on all aspects of the event: floor plans and table schematics; décor; signage and visual displays; show production and staging; on-campus publicity; and sound and lighting.
5. Post-Event: Follow-up activities are conducted as necessary, including budget closure, sending post-event surveys, and providing the client with an event summary report.
Development
The Office of Special Events and Community Partnerships plans and manages special events for the Office of the President and for the Office of University Advancement involving university donors, events hosted by the Board of Trustees, groundbreakings, grand openings, naming and dedication events, and selected major University-wide events. These events stimulate the involvement and interest of an ever-growing support base comprising students, alumni, donors, friends, and community partners.
Celebration of Excellence
The Celebration of Excellence is the signature annual event hosted by NSU President and CEO, George L. Hanbury, Ph.D. This event celebrates one of NSU’s core values, community, and acknowledges the University’s contributions as well as special individuals who exemplify community service.
The president introduces the newest members of NSU’s Shark Circle—donors who have generously given $1 million or more to support our vision as we continue to grow, educate, and serve.
The President’s Award for Excellence in Community Service is also presented to pay special tribute to those who go above and beyond to impact others.
NSU Athletics Scholarship Golf Classic
The Scholarship Golf Classic event is essential to the success of NSU’s nationally recognized NCAA Division II athletic program. The proceeds from this annual event go directly to the student-athlete scholarship endowment fund.
The Big Thank You
Every year, NSU’s administration and students gather to honor scholarship donors at The Big Thank You Luncheon. Donor honorees represent the many generous people who have created endowed and non-endowed scholarships at NSU. These scholarships enable deserving students throughout the University to pursue their dreams of undergraduate and graduate degrees. This financial assistance further ensures NSU’s growth in teaching, research, service, and learning.

Entrepreneur Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony
The Huizenga College of Business & Entrepreneurship’s Entrepreneur and Business Hall of Fame honors the lifetime achievements of outstanding business people in the South Florida community. These outstanding honorees have exhibited leadership by giving of their time and resources with the aim of enhancing the quality of life for others. The selection committee for this prestigious honor comprises current Hall of Fame members.
